Below is a list of some of the major events that have taken place at the Nissan Institute.

A Workshop on Machines that changed their worlds: the social history of the sewing machine and the bicycle in Britain and Japan took place on 7th July, 2009 at the History Faculty organised by Dr Ann Waswo.

The 2008 Astor Lecture in association with The History Faculty, The Humanities Division and the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies.
Akira Iriye, Charles Warren Research Professor Emeritus of History, Harvard University gave his lecture entitled Transnational Moments on 21st November 2008.

Carol Gluck, George Sansom Professor of History, Columbia University gave her lecture After the Shipwreck: New Horizons for History-writing, in the Nissan Institute on 14th, May 2007.

18th May, 2007 - Dr Ann Waswo's Valedictory Lecture.

Professor Roger Goodman's Inaugural Lecture as Nissan Professor of Modern Japanese Studies, 26th May 2006.

30th May, 2003 - Professor Arthur Stockwin's Valedictory Lecture.

Merry I. White, Department of Anthropology, Boston University spoke on Families Without Values: Official Virtues and Ordinary Lives in Japan, 6th March 2006.

Mr Taro Aso, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, Government of Japan gave a lecture entitled Japan’s role in efforts to create a stable and peaceful world on 6th May 2005.

H.E. Yoshiji Nogami, former Japanese ambassador to the UK spoke about Japan and Asia, 21st October 2005.

Professor Hayami Akira, one of Japan’s leading economic historians, gave a speech entitled Taishô Demography [in Japanese] on 19th March 2004.
