Research Topic and short description: Good Girls Don't Get Ahead? Exploring teachers' perceptions of the gender gap in mathematics in Japan. How do teachers understand the significant gender gaps in achievement and attitudes towards mathematics in Japan amongst middle school students? In a country where only 14% of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) graduates are female, investigating the earlier background of girls 'opting out' of these careers is the first step to fixing the pipeline for this vital economic area.
