The Bodleian Japanese Library (BJL) opened to readers in April 1993 in the newly constructed building of the Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies in the precincts of St. Antony's College. It is an open-access library, with seating space for 45 users at any one time. The BJL houses the University's principal collections relating to Japan, but readers can request books on various subjects held in our storage facilities and consult them in the BJL reading room.

Admissions

The BJL is a dependent library of the Bodleian. Anyone wishing to use the Library must be an accredited reader of the Bodleian Library and comply with its regulations. All readers must have a valid University Card or obtain a Bodleian Library Reader's Card in order to enter the library. Readers must show their card upon entering the BJL and may be asked to produce it at any time while using the Library.
