Nissan Seminar: Remembering Ron Dore

Remembering Ron Dore: Reflections on his contributions to social science from the study of Japan

Ronald Dore’s exploration of Japan over many decades has influenced the social sciences well beyond Japanese studies.  His keen eye for detail, underlying trends and comparison, his sharp intellect combined with generosity and humour, have had a strong impact on Japanese studies at Oxford.  Professors Mari Sako (Saïd Business School) and Hugh Whittaker (Nissan Institute of Japanese Studies), who were his last Ph.D students, will reflect on his contributions, and how they have taken these forward in their own work, with contributions from Roger Goodman, Ian Neary, and Takehiko Kariya.  At the end of the session we will invite contributions from all those present.

This seminar will start at 2.00 p.m. in the Nissan Institute Lecture Theatre.
