Dr Anna Sharko manages the Bodleian Japanese Library and has curatorial responsibilities for the collection of Japanese manuscripts and rare books housed at the Weston Library.
She has previously worked at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (University of Oxford) as a Lecturer and has been involved in the Oxford-NINJAL Corpus of Old Japanese project as an editor and researcher.
Anna received her PhD from Waseda University (Japan), with a thesis on Sociolinguistics of language contact and orthographical choice in Early Modern and Modern Japan.
Her research interests include History of China-Japan-Western exchange, Translation of Western terms and names in China and Japan, Historical Sociolinguistics, Theory of writing and Corpus linguistics.
